summer lovin'

i won't attempt insight or wit. the facts are these: i am loving summertime in this mitten-shaped state. i'll show you why.

EASTERN MARKET
eastern market is an entirely different experience in the warm months. crowded vendor sheds, live music, barbecuing on the street, and great varieties of "grown in michigan" products.

NEIGHBOR JOHN
when i met neighbor john, i assumed we'd become friends because of a serious lack in the 'hood. last wednesday, as he and i scouted out the best place for watching fireworks, i thought: "i really lucked out with this one." i can finally rest easy and start in (subtly) on my urban adventure biking neighbors...

SUMMER FESTIVALS
may through september is marked by a continuous string of festivals in michigan, many of which are free. so far i've made it to: the final four, movement/demf, midsummer nights in midtown, top of the park, and (this week) cityfest.

FRESH WATER & ROAD TRIPS
amy j. recruited some folks to run a race up north in charlevoix. running - meh. up north - yes, please. rolling hills, foliage galore, and lake michigan. what a dream. next stop: mackinaw.

UNEXPECTED CULINARY DELIGHTS
if you EVER find yourself within 50 miles of harbor springs, mi, PROMISE ME you will visit turkey's. homemade crust, vegetarian options to boot, and toppings so fresh i peaked around back to see if they had a garden.
